My name is Alejandra, but you might know me on social media as Matiba. I’m a Colombian artist and visual storyteller.
My love for drawing began with my fascination for Alice in Wonderland, beautifully illustrated by Mary Blair—a major influence in my journey. I was 8 years old when I saw it for the first time, and it sparked a passion that has stayed with me ever since. Movies like Mulan and 101 Dalmatians also captivated me, alongside the magical worlds of Studio Ghibli and anime. Titles like Akira, Spirited Away, Your Name, and many more deepened my love for storytelling through art. I was drawn to their stories and couldn’t resist sketching my favorite characters.
Beyond animation, I’ve always found inspiration in graphic novels, such as Persepolis and Maus, I love to collect illustrated books and I found inspiration in art as a whole. Museums, galleries, and even everyday moments with family and friends are constant sources of creativity for me.
To me, the beauty of life lies in its small, meaningful moments. Treasuring these experiences—whether joyful or challenging—brings happiness, growth, and inspiration. When we embrace these moments, the energy to create and explore naturally follows. Learning, experimenting, and going with the flow are at the heart of my creative philosophy.
Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of working across various media, which has given me a broad perspective on how to bring projects to life in unique and dynamic ways.
I’m always up for a good challenge and love bringing stories to life.
Feel free to say hello and let’s work together.
